Obituary of Harold Eugene Stroll
On Friday, October 12, 2018, Harold joined his heavenly Father who created him to be kind, generous, loving and thoughtful.
He attended Margaret Park and South High schools. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and was wounded in action in Korea. After returning home from the service, he returned to South High School to finish his senior year with is boyhood friend, Jack McKinney. It was there that he met, and later married, his loving wife of 59 years, Beverly. After graduation from Akron University, he began his 31-year teaching reign at Pfeifer School where he was loved and admired. Harold enjoyed coaching and coached his son and fishing buddy, Jim, in baseball for many years. He was always interested in sports, and was an enthusiastic assistant coach at Kenmore High School for over 20 years.
Because he was wounded while serving in Korea, he was sensitive to the needs of other veterans. A loyal member of Chapter 35 of the Disabled American Veterans in Akron, Ohio, he served that unit as Treasurer for many years and was active in fund-raising efforts to help other vets.
Harold loved his Lord and Savior and served Him as a high school youth group advisor, Sunday School Superintendent, and Elder at Zion Lutheran Church. Harold was thankful for his friend, John Yilling, who invited him to attend Zion 60 years ago. His church family was important to him, and this family was an integral part of his life as was his birth family. Harold's faithful, loving, and encouraging parents, Minnie and Fred Stroll, raised ten children, and Harold is the last of these ten siblings to say farewell to those who filled his life with joy and laughter.
Harold has deep feelings for ALL his many, many his nieces and nephews, and he was always anxious to attend the large family picnics and parties. A special note of appreciation to nephew, Rick Diehl, who escorted his uncle to numerous medical appointments. Long-time friend, Mary Elaine Lange, and her family, held a special place in the heart of Harold, and he loved and admired their family spirit. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Minnie Stroll, and his nine siblings: Jack, Juanita, Jane, Fanny, John, Betty, Esther, Janet, and Darlene. He is survived by his wife Beverly Stroll (DeVille) and his son, James Stroll.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, 2-5 pm, and Monday, 10-11 am at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, where a funeral service will take place on Monday at 11 am. Rev. John Eiwen officiating.
