I remember Coach Stroll from Pfeiffer and the from playing football at Kenmore. Always good humored and some of his comments and antics are still shared amongst my group of friends today.
I also recall, years later, teaching him CPR at his church. I had taught hundreds of people by then but having him in the class took me right back to high school. I commented that “Today the teacher becomes the student and the student becomes the teacher”. He laughed at the comment and we had fun that day.

Mr. Stroll is a fine example of someone who quietly, steadily makes the world a better place. He was a very important influence on a little boy who had lost his Father and needed a good man. God Bless Mr. Stroll.

Mr. Stroll holds a special place in the hearts of my family. When he was my sisters teacher she was injured on the playground. He would come to our house and bring her homework and check on her. Then I was fortunate to have him as my teacher before he retired! In 2011 I ran into him at work and he gave me the biggest hug! He was always so warm, Caring and loving to everyone! He will truly be missed!

Coach Stroll was truly a legend in his own time.
My first glimpse of him was in a glorious photo taken of the Kenmore locker room after the City Series “Turkey Day” championship football game in the early 1970s. Then, close to a decade later, he was on the staff for a group of players not quite as successful, where we were all witness to his magical blend of humor and drive and inspiration.
My few interactions with him —he was not my positon coach — will be with me always. He was complimentary of my “skill” on at least one occasion, and to a boy who was never all that confident, getting a validation from Harold Stroll felt like Zeus encircling your heart with lightning bolts. My friends, almost all of whom were coached directly by him, to this day almost four decades later tell stories of his magnetism and mirth, each time with laughter and respect in their voices.
I was not in his class at Pfeiffer, but it was the same there: a singular character whose color and knowledge filled a classroom and left an indelible mark.
He was deeply loved. All my best to those he leaves behind. I hope you find strength in the stories of those he came in contact with throughout his life.
