Jean was beloved by all. She was an exceptional woman. All the good aspects of living were represented by Jean and incorporated into how she lived her life. There are so many qualities to respect including her warmth, sense of fun, dignity, civility, service to others, and spirituality. Jean was indeed a “Grande Dame” and, to my mind, represents the best of an era which is lost and gone.
In the latter decades of her life, she was no slacker. Fellowship and connection with others remained a central theme in her life. Jean was a close friend of my Aunt Helen’s. I’ve known her since I was a young child, but best loved the years when we connected after my Aunt’s funeral. Then I was old enough to share a cocktail with her.
In 1999, Jean and I were leaders of the ‘Operators and Associates,’ a small social assembly of elders whose six members met quarterly at Anthe’s (Manchester Rd.) for a long lunch, cocktails, and to graciously while away an afternoon. The purpose was to enjoy ourselves, exhibit civilities as known from the olden days, and reminisce about the past as well as discussing the present.
Conversation was indeed lively. What good times we had. We met up for years and years. Unfortunately, members gradually died off until only Jean and I (as Madame President) remained. Oh, oh, I’m remembering that Jane S’s funeral and celebration were dynamite. Jean, tell Dorothy, Donna Ott, Jane, and Helen McD that I said hi.
Thereafter, Jean merged us with another extraordinary group known as the Queen’s Ladies and Party Girls. Guess who was our Queen? Two generations were represented. Birthdays were celebrated and a great time was had by all, particularly during the Olde Harbor Inn days in Portage Lakes. Jerry H was our special server.
These luncheons or dinners were filled with “feel good” and an uplifting aura which can never be duplicated. Hearts were pure. Fun, laughs, creativity, and spirit flowed during those get-togethers.
In conclusion, there is no doubt that Jean is in heaven. Moreover, she got there on the jet express. We certainly are happy for her but we are greatly saddened by our significant loss of such a wonderful lady and friend.

I am so very upset that I cannot attend the services for Jean. She once told me to travel as much as I can and I have taken her advice, so I guess she would approve of my not being there. It was always fun to share my trips with Jean and hear her travel stories, too. I certainly appreciate her friendship over the years at St. Francis de Sales in the back row of the church. She was the first person to talk to my mother and me and how fortunate we were! Inviting me to the birthday celebrations was a special treat and sharing her birthday with my mother’s same day and month was truly wonderful. She is with my mother now and I am sure they are enjoying heaven together.Blessings to all those who knew her!!
