Obituary of Anthony Charles Burbridge
Anthony Charles Burbridge was born in West Virginia April 14, 1947 to Glenn Sr. and Alice Burbridge. He grew up within the southern parts of Akron, OH. He is survived by his brother David (Brenda) Burbridge; brother-in-law Don Kubec, sister-in-law Helen Burbridge and wife of 50 years, Jeanne. They had 4 beautiful children: Melanie, Allyson, Dana, and Nicholas who they raised in Firestone Park-Akron, Ohio. They were a part of St. Paul’s parish on Brown St. for many years. Everyone in the community knew about them "D (DANA) A (ALLYSON) M (MELANIE) N (NICK) " Burbridges! All children were married to wonderful spouses who Tony cherished as his own: Aaron Kangas, Patrick Mobley, John Wendt & Sheila Burbridge. Tony is also survived by all nine grandchildren he helped raise: Paige, Alexis, Lauren, Connor, Lexi, Maddy, Liam, Kendall & Sylas. Tony was known by many during his life as many different things. He was not only a son, brother/brother-in-law, husband, father/ father-in-law, and grandfather, but a coach, mentor/teacher, co-worker at BF Goodrich , Metro RTA, AES, beloved friend, and more.
He was a loved man who was touched by many and touched many other's lives. He may be described by others as a very charismatic, supportive, dedicated, stubborn, humorous, and lovable guy. He had such passion for sports and his players. Known as the infamous Coach B. He coached volleyball for Hoban, Akron East, and Akron Garfield. Softball for Akron East, Akron Garfield, and Akron Manchester and football for his beloved Eagles at Central Hower. In his free time, he loved to fish and be at the Portage Lakes. Sitting out in the sun on the water was his happy place. He also loved to spend time with friends & family, watch sports, old western movies, listen to R&B-Motown music, online shop, and play computer games. Tony adored cars. He was known for his many Cadillacs over the years. He was such an inspiration with his strength and shall continue to be for his family. As the family prepares for their next obstacle of his eldest grandchild, Paige’s, esophageal removal surgery in May they know he will be there in the OR with her holding her hand through it all.
He fought the good fight for so many years against CAD,CHF, back issues, and kidney failure. May he now rest in peace pain-free with those who preceded him in death. His parents; sister Diane Kubec; and brother Glenn Burbridge Jr.. Heaven gained a warrior the morning of March 13, 2019. He's coaching heaven's team now. I’m sure he is smiling down on all of us with a cold beer while fishing in the clouds. He was dearly loved and will never be forgotten for the numerous memories shared with him. May they never be forgotten, but forever be treasured. He will be surely missed by all of those he touched. The family shall never be the same without him. The family would like to thank all those friends and family that have reached out, came to comfort and/or support us in our time of need, contributed food, kind words, condolences, or prayers. For all those who knew of him and our family may we raise a glass and celebrate his life on Saturday, March 23 from 10am-12pm at the Anthony Funeral Homes, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S Main St. in Akron. Following will be a memorial service at noon. In addition, the family wants to invite all to a luncheon, at the Akron Hibernian Club, 2000 Brown St. Akron,OH 44319 from 1 pm-?. Those in attendance are encouraged to wear sports gear to honor Tony’s love for athletics.
