I feel hounered to be able to say I met Barry ,
Within 10 minutes of picking Joanne and myself at the airport , he was asking me to be quiet in his what I learned to be his way of saying “ shut up Mark , I’m talking “
Ok ,I thought
The next day , we toured his factory , full tour no messing or ...talking to much .
I was excited to be there ,amazed at what you can do with a light bulb ( lamp) you plant bulbs in the ground .
We sat in his office , while he smoked in secret from his world , ( I didn’t get it , but each to there own )
A day or so later we stayed at his house , all the family came and friends and neibours , FantStic host
We stayed that night and in the morning He and the girls all went out and left me in his house ,fishing with the worst tackle ever in the lake
My gosh , lots of telephone time talking to Joanne with me butting in and he would look at the camera and I knew ......
Ssshhhhh
It’s my pleasuer to have known this quirky guy from Birmingham ,who found the American dream in his way
I will take care of your beautiful Joanne and be there for all of your girls .
Rest now my friend ❤️
Good night Barry ❤️

Barry aka Papa Barry was an amazing man and a big part of my life because of my dear, best friend, Nikki!
Barry was like a second father to me as well as many others! I’ve heard him refer to me as “the 5th daughter”, which was very heartwarming to me, as I lost my Dad as a teenager! I’ve been a part of Nikki’s family for 36 years now! And I’m lucky to have Barry in my life!
My first memory of Barry is of him tossing us kids like bean bags into the back of his green VW van, nothing but little girls giggling the whole way to Stevie’s Ice-Cream,to make our own sundaes for Nikki’s birthday party! We were about 8yrs old then, and I’ve been a part of their family since!
Barry loves his girls and their silly friends; always kept us laughing! And challenging us to be better! He taught me so much, I could go on and on! Ummmm no, you don’t down shift into first gear, it’s only used for “takeoff” in his words. Lol he loved his workshop where he created some amazing things, I always loved his stain glass, he even let me make my own piece, and he taught as I learned!
I worked for Barry in my 20’s for about 4,5 years! I think Glass Surface with Barry and Nikki really made our bond a strong one! He was an extremely hard worker, his business was his passion (one of many passions) but he always made time for his clever whit and banter, which had us laughing tears! I loved working with Barry and Nikki! For many many years it was just Barry and Nikki and some employees in the factory, manufacturing his famous shatterproof lighting! Look how far they’ve come! He was a brilliant man on so many levels.
He loved all things nature, his dogs, his roses, and his beautiful gardens! And I always loved to listen to Barry’s stories! He ALWAYS had a story to tell! And he was great at it! My memories could go on forever but I’ll end this note with my last memory less then a year ago he flew me and children to Ohio for a visit! He took me to dinner and I got to ride in his little classic red car! So grateful to have seen him not long ago! Never thought it would be my last visit with him!
Well Barry, I’m happy you made it to other side to be reunited with the family! I wouldn’t doubt if he was already hanging with my Dad up there! Lol
Papa Barry, you will be very missed and certainly never forgotten! I love you Barry Jacobs!
Love, 1st slave, Scott, & Zya
PS- i have been talking to ya daily! And always will! I’ll be looking for you in all things beautiful and in all things everywhere!
