Obituary of Robert Joseph Spay, Sr.

GREEN – Robert J. Spay, Sr., 81, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Summa Hospice after a hard-fought battle with bladder cancer. Robert was born December 12, 1937 to Joseph S. and Catherine (Tremko) Spay in Struthers, OH and had been a Green resident since 1968. He was a veteran of the Navy. He was employed by Goodyear Aerospace for 36 years, retiring in 2000. He was a faithful member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Joann (Premec); children Patricia (Christopher) Thibodeau, Stephanie (Dr. Christopher) McHenry, Robert J. Spay, Jr. and Barbara (Mark) Figuray; grandchildren Anthony, Monica, Nicholas, Katherine (Ian), Jamie, Kelie, Krystin, Meagan and Kyle; great grandson Liam; and brothers Thomas (Sue) and Joseph (Lola); sister-in-law Karen Spay. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother David. The family will receive friends Friday, February 15, 2019 from 4 to 8 pm at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Road, Uniontown OH 44685 where a Rosary will be recited at 7:45pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Church. Private interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Summa Hospice and Palliative Care or the American Cancer Society.
