Obituary of Waldene Brittamart Mazak

Waldene Mazak, 95 passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 surrounded by her children. She was born on January 11, 1923 in Senecaville, Ohio to William and Hazel Williams and was the oldest of three children. Waldene enjoyed a long life of many dimensions. She moved to Akron at the age of four. Waldene graduated from Akron East High School in 1940 and attended the University of Akron receiving a Bachelor's of Education Degree in 1944. She then went on to pursue a rewarding professional career with the Akron Public School System where she was a 1st grade teacher from 1945 until retiring in 1988. She completed post graduate classes at the University of Akron and Columbia University. She earned a Master's of Arts Degree in Education in 1977. Throughout the years she enjoyed working with students and families at many Akron elementary schools including; Forest Hill, Hotchkiss, Windemere, Findley, McEbright, Seiberling and Barber Elementary. She was a member of the Akron Education Association (AEA). Her love for young children was reflected in her many years of dedicated educational instruction to her young students. In addition to her educational interests, Waldene enjoyed ballroom dancing. She will be missed by everyone she touched in her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, June and Twyla; and loving husband, Stephen G. Mazak. She leaves behind five children, Dr. Elizabeth Mazak-Bard (Dr. Joseph Perry), Mary (Boyd) Lamb, Margaret King, Stephen (Nancy) Mazak and Caroline (Matthew) May; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 10 a.m. at Visitation of Mary (Annunciation) Catholic Church, 55 Broad St. Akron, Ohio 44305. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. The family will receive friends Sunday, 3 to 5 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron, Ohio 44301. (Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, Akron)
