Catherine Molenaur

Obituary of Catherine Molenaur

Catherine Shushura Molenaur, Born August 7, 1919, died December 22, 2018. Born in Scranton, PA, the middle child of 8 sisters and also 2 brothers that died at infancy. She was preceded in death by her father John Shushura in 1930 and her mother Catherine Sikula Shushura in 1939. At that time she and her younger sisters moved to Akron to be with their older sisters. Mom and Dad met, at the Isaly's store he managed on S. Arlington St. and married in 1940. Dad died March 28, 1980, and mom could never find another one like him so she wasn't looking! Together they had three children: Michael, who died shortly after birth, Michael John (Gloria), and Cynthia Molenaur Papas. She worked from the time she was a young girl. Most notably at the Massillon Rd. Market she and dad owned together and Case Egg & Poultry. She also found time to volunteer and joined many groups: 880 Union Retirees, Phi Mu Mother's Club (past president), COCA, PTA (of course) Bath Safety Town, (where she was everyone's Baba), as well as cooking at the St. Vladimir Orthodox Camp. Most importantly, she volunteered tirelessly for her church St. Nicholas Orthodox (Mogadore, OH) where she was a member of the Altar Aid Society, FROC, and laundered the altar clothes for many years. She also worked many hours at the church hall and festival. If you attended the Something Russian Festival she was usually at the basket raffle table. In addition to her children she is survived by two sisters: Margaret Carper & Ginger Baker, both of Florida; 5 grandchildren: Aaron, Justin (Morgan) Barret (Rene), Mike Jerry Papas, Marianthe Papas Tufts (Chris), 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She was a prayerful woman who knew how to ask for forgiveness and to forgive. Her final words were, 'I Love You.' May Her Memory Be Eternal. Catherine will lie in state for a Divine Liturgy on Wednesday, December 26, at 9 am at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 755 S. Cleveland Ave. in Mogadore, where the family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 am. A funeral service will be conducted by Very Rev. Fr. Nicholas Wyslutsky at 11:30 am in the church. Interment will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Catherine's memory to either St. Nicholas Church or Cemetery.
