Obituary of Samuel D. Rufener

Samuel D. Rufener, DDS, 84, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Brookdale Assisted Living. Samuel was born February 10, 1934 to Fred and Vesta (Thackwell) Rufener in Massillon, OH and had been an area resident most of his life. He was a graduate of The Ohio State School of Dentistry and opened his Orthodontic Office in Akron in 1962 until his retirement in 2001. He was a Free and Accepted Mason of Wayfarer Lodge No. 789, Scottish Rite 32nd Degree and a Shriner. He was a member of the Train Collectors Association, Bass Masters and the Akron Dental Association. He was also a private pilot and an avid fisherman. Samuel is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Loretta (Moore); daughters Yvonne Demyan, Michele Dunn, Melodie Woodley and Twyla (Bob) Ashley; grandchildren Christina Demyan, Heather (Chris) Roberts, Adam (fiance Lindsay Robertson) Demyan, Rob Ashley, Travis (Amber) Dunn, Cassidy (fiance Ryan McDonnell) Dunn, and Miranda Dunn; great grandchildren Scarlett Dunn, Christopher Roberts, Leo Dunn, Asher Roberts, and Jaxon King. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter Diana Woodley, son-in-law Don Woodley and sister Sally Fogel. The family is especially grateful to the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living and Brookdale Hospice. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Anthony Funeral Home, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. and will finish with a funeral service at 2:00pm. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
