Obituary of Christine Gorbach

Is it the artist alone who makes the art, or is it the audience who completes the work? ~ Christine Gorbach, 2016 Christine Gorbach, age 64, of Brecksville, Ohio, passed away on November 22, 2018, in Akron, Ohio, following complications from an aneurysm. Christine was an intelligent, artistic, loving woman, and she will be missed by all who knew her. Art was her passion, and through a plethora of talents, including abstract painting, film making, music, and dance, she brought beauty and color into the lives of all who knew her. She hosted salon and book club, and never missed a Zumba class. She taught art in the Cuyahoga Falls School system for 30 years, and taught at the college level for 10 more. She enjoyed working for Kent State University as a supervisor for Art Education and adjunct professor. Christine's art work was exhibited throughout the world, including Toronto, Denmark, Germany, and France, with numerous showings throughout the United States as well. She was the recipient of the National Arts Education Association (NAEA) Women's Caucus Carrie Nordlund Award for Excellence in Feminist Pedagogy in 2008. Her film, My Regards, won a First Place award at the Iona College New York show "The Female Gaze: Women Artists Interpret the World." Her recent work was also shown in a solo show at the Akron Women's City Club. Christine's beautiful singing voice could be heard with performances in the play Quilters, the Sound of Music, Crooked River Woman's Chorale, and the Summit County Choral Society. She was excited to perform at Severance Hall in Cleveland, and Carnegie Hall in New York City. Most importantly, she was an amazing mother, sister, aunt and friend. She was our person and will be missed beyond measure. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Agnes, and her sister, Cynthia. She leaves behind her son Jon, his wife Katie, their two boys Owen and Lucas, and her son Ben and his wife Lindsey. Christine will be forever remembered by her siblings, Greg(Ainsleigh), Steve (Shawn), Tim (Peggy), Carol (Mark), Peter (Kay), Jeff (Debbie), Colleen (Mark), and Charlene (Masato). Christine will also be remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and her companion, Jim. Christine played many roles, and had many titles, but the one that brought her the most joy was that of "Nana'. She loved her family with all of her heart, and was adored and respected by them and her numerous friends, colleagues, and former students. Family and friends may call on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main St., Akron OH 44301. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 26 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Cremation will follow services.
