Obituary of John Curtis Rossiter

John C. Rossiter, 57 passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018.

 

John fought every day of his life to overcome physical adversity.  He was an inspiration to his family and friends who loved him and he will be sorely missed. 

 

John was born in South Korea at the U.S. military base where his father was stationed and his mother was employed.  He attended Barrett Elementary School in Akron; graduated from North High School in Akron and earned a Ph.D in Evaluation and Measurement from Kent State University where he worked as an adjunct faculty member in both teaching and research.   He worked as a statistician for the U.S. Census Bureau in Washington, D.C. and as a researcher, analyst and consultant for various entities including the National Science Foundation.

 

For several years John was an active participant in the Ohio Wheelchair Games regularly earning gold, silver and bronze medals.   He was active in several advocacy and professional groups through Kent State University, the City of Akron and Summit County. 

 

John was a former member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Barberton.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Su Sa (Lee) Rossiter in 2009. He is survived by his father, Richard A.; brothers, Andrew (Susan), Stephen and James Rossiter; and niece and nephew, Natalie and Matthew Rossiter.

 

The family will receive friends Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S Main St. Akron, OH 44301.  Graveside service and Interment will be held Monday, 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, 100 E. Waterloo Rd. Akron, OH 44319. Fr. David Majikas officiating. (Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, Akron)
