Obituary of Arlene Faye Hall
Arlene Faye (Rhodes) Hall, 89, of Wadsworth, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving children on October 31st. Arlene was born November 23, 1928 in Johnstown, PA to Fred and Irene Rhodes. She spent her youth on a farm outside of Somerset, PA, where she came to appreciate the joy of riding horses in the rolling hills, but never evolved to similar feelings about the daily farm chores. She went to college to become a teacher, graduating from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio in 1950. In addition to her acquiring a teaching degree, during her college years she met and eventually married the love of her life, Jackson J. Hall, of Wadsworth. The young couple married in July, 1950 and settled in Jack’s hometown, Wadsworth, where Arlene taught elementary school. They were married for just shy of 60 years at the time of Jack’s death in January, 2010.
Jack and Arlene were blessed with a healthy, active family, and she is survived by daughter Melanie Irwin (David) of Sunset, SC, son Fr. Jerry Hall (Helene) of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and daughter Jennifer Griffith (Drew) of Perrysburg, OH. After some full time teaching, Arlene happily embraced the joys and challenges of shepherding her children through their formative years. She was an avid golfer and long time member at Rawiga Country Club, enjoyed playing contract bridge and the occasional bourbon. An accomplished cook and baker, she enjoyed her time in the kitchen preparing meals for the enjoyment of others, and made the best carrot cake with cream cheese frosting known to mankind.
Arlene is also survived by her younger siblings, Don Rhodes of Pittsburgh, Pat Lape (Bill) of Pittsburgh and William Rhodes (Carol) of Somerset, PA, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. As a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, her life was guided by her Christian faith; she was a blessing and she was blessed.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Private interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be directed to Annunciation Centennial Campaign, 129 S. Union St., Akron, OH 44304.
