Obituary of Elizabeth Irene Garritano

ELIZABETH IRENE (HORVATH) GARRITANO

86 of Akron passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018.  Elizabeth “Liz” was born on April 2, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of the late John and Susan (Kovach) Horvath.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was an excellent cook, loved working in her flower garden and feeding the birds, chipmunks and squirrels from her backyard deck.  She was proud to be a winner of the Akron Beautification Watch Award for several years.  In 2007 Liz and her husband Ralph graciously donated a 30-foot blue spruce to the city of Akron for its holiday festival at Lock 3 Park.  She participated in the Summit County Metro Parks Fall Walking Spree for more than 50 years, enjoyed going to dances with her husband, local festivals, concerts at Lake Anna, family reunions, was very proud of her Hungarian heritage, and an avid Cleveland Indians fan.  Liz enjoyed being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.  She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Altar Society.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Lou and Joseph Bedoch.  She is survived by her husband Ralph Garritano whom she married on July 27, 1957, recently celebrated their 61st anniversary; her children and their spouses Deborah (Clifford) Combs, Sue (Rod) White, Steve (Caroline) Garritano, Janice (Tony) DiAntonio, Mary (Mike) DiPasquale, Judy (Mitchell) Ware, Joe (Paula) Garritano; grandchildren Melissa and Scott Combs, Bill (Keelynn), Dan (Lisa), Becky (fiancé Brian Frank) and T.J. White, Dylan and Madeline Garritano, Angelia (Tobi) Becker, Marc, John, and Nick DiAntonio, Blake Ware, Rachel and Grace Garritano; great-grandchildren Alei, Bryce and Zoe White; sister in-laws Maria Bedoch, Irene Garritano; brother in-laws Mike (Lois) Garritano, Ken Ricker; special nieces Susie (Ross) Staffeld and Mary Ann (Mike) Foster, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday (Sept. 26) at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main St., Akron.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday (Sept. 27) at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Father Norm Douglas as celebrant.  Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery Friday (Sept. 28) at 12:45 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 164 W. Market St., Akron OH 44303.
