Obituary of Paul Richard Marcinkoski

Paul R. Marcinkoski, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, peacefully left this world to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, August 28, 2018 at his home.

Paul was born February 25, 1930 to John and Anna (Muretich) Marcinkoski in Akron, Ohio and had been an area resident his entire life.  He attended Robinson Elementary and was an Eagle Scout in Goodyear Troop 42. He graduated from Akron’s East High School where he ran track, cross country and was senior class president.  He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.  Graduating from Kent State University, he was an architect for 59 years, most with the Akron Public Schools, retiring in 1989 but practicing until 2014.  He was a founding member of Nativity of the Lord Catholic Church.  He was also a member of the Hoban High School Board of Trustees and was recognized as a Friend of Hoban.  He was District Deputy for the Knights of Columbus and Grand Knight of Council 4664.  He was Grand Marshall of the All-American Soap Box Derby, and was a member of the Catholic War Veterans.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, JoAnn (Slevin); children Thomas (Monica) Marinkoski, Dr. Joan (Dr. Paul) Kolodzik, Dr. Beth (Bruce) Altieri, Ann (Robert) Gruska, Laura (Tony) Hawk and Jenifer (Troy) Burt; grandchildren Jena and Alena Marcinkoski, Daniel, Sarah and Matthew Kolodzik, Christopher (Erin) Marcinkoski, Audrey (Thomas) Bouscher, Lauren and Steven Gruska, Austin Hawk and Ian, Aiden and Christian Burt; great grandchildren Tate and Leighton Marcinkoski.  He is preceded in death and welcomed into heaven by his granddaughter Natalie Altieri and brother John W. Marcinkoski.  He was also loved by every dog, cat, bee and poison ivy plant he encountered. (This is his story and he’s sticking to it.)

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday September 1, at 11:30 AM at Nativity of the Lord Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Rd., Akron OH 44312. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11:00 AM at the church.  Private interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Paul’s name may be made to the Marcinkoski Family Scholarship Fund at Archbishop Hoban High School, One Holy Cross Blvd, Akron, OH 44306 or to the Nativity of the Lord Catholic Church Building
