Eddie, 66, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2018 after a brief but very courageous battle with lung cancer. We were all blindsided by the terrible disease but he stayed strong through all of his treatments and surgeries, never complaining.
He graduated from Garfield High School in 1970. After working for nearly 50 years, he retired 2 years ago and was enjoying fishing and boating on the Portage Lakes and Lake Erie and traveling with his wife of 37 years, Debbie. He loved the Carolina, California, and Florida beaches, the mountains, and the Arizona desert.
Eddie will be deeply missed by his wife Debbie, daughters Heather (Nick) Mickunas and Brittany (PJ) Helms, and his grandchildren Kennedy, Finley (his best friend) and new grandson due in November. Being their Pa and going on adventures with them was his greatest joy.
He is preceded in death by his loving mother Grace Knecht, infant baby daughter, Grandparents James and Marie Peach, and special loved ones aunt Dorothy, aunt Lil, Claire Mace, and his fur baby, Kitty.
In addition to his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, Eddie is survived by his father Ernest (Della) Knecht; brother John; sister Susan (Denny) Arnold; mother-in-law Phyllis Keefer; Father-in-law Robert (Vera) Keefer, aunt Betty Willoughby; brothers-in-law Bob Keefer, Eric Keefer, and David Mace; sisters-in-law Laura (Rory) Mayer, Linda (Rusty) Allen, and Julie Eder; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the family and special friends who participated in his final journey and to the staff at Akron General Hospital and Hospice Care Center where he received loving care.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 31, 2018 4 to 7:30 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron OH 44301. Funeral services will follow the calling hours Tuesday at 7:30 pm. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Akron General Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, Ohio 44333.
