Obituary of Stephanie Roarty

Stephanie Roarty Stephanie Roarty of Akron Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 10th from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Stephanie was born on January 15th 1933 to Robert and Mildred Roarty in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Garfield High School, and shortly after graduation, made the decision to become a nun and joined the Dominican Order. Stephanie went on to receive her Bachelor's of Education from John Carroll University, and then later her Master's in Child Guidance from the University of Dayton. While in the convent, she taught at St. Augustine's of Barberton, St. Paul's of Akron, and several other parochial schools throughout the area. After approximately 20 years in the convent Stephanie returned to secular life and public education. She later became the principal of Cherry Street Grade School in Mt. Gilead, Ohio from where she eventually retired. Stephanie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mildred, nephew, Ryan, and sister-in-law, Cheryl. She is survived by her brother, Gregory; nephew, Kevin (Natalie); great nephews, Sean and Connor; and a large extended family who have shown extraordinary love and compassion the last several years. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Road in Green, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. Published in Akron Beacon Journal from May 12 to May 13, 2018
