Obituary of Jerry Scott Powell
Jerry Scott Powell, 64 passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018.
He was born in Akron and was a 1972 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and attended Kent State University. He was employed by Nabisco, the City of Cuyahoga Falls, he was a security officer with Gulf States Toyota in Houston, Texas and a correctional officer for Extraditions International, Inc. with the Alabama Sheriff’s Office. Scott was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1977 to 1981. He was honored by the veterans hospice on April 6 for his services. His last duty was a paratrooper with the 509th Airborne Battallion Combat Team in Vicenza, Italy. Special thanks to Bath Creek and North Eastern Ohio Veterans Hospice for all of their care.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry E. Powell; and brother, Jeffrey S. Powell, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Marylin J. Powell; brother, Kelly C. (Beth) Powell; sister, Diana (Mark) Somers; nieces and nephews, Doug Somers, Christian Viering, Mandy (Dereck) Kline, Melissa Aycock and Jeffrey Powell, Jr.; great-nieces, Skye and Alexa Aycock; aunt, Linda Pitkin; and many neighbors and friends.
A Memorial service will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2141 5th St. Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221 where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Pastor Paul Frerichs officiating.
