Obituary of John Platner

John Platner, 95, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2018.
Born in Barberton on August 27, 1922 to the late Michael & Mary Platner, John was a graduate of Barberton High School. He earned his bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Heidelberg College and his Masters in Organic Chemistry from the University of Akron. He retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 38 years. His various job assignments took him and his family to Georgia, Texas, & Ohio. John served his country as an officer in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946, serving in the Pacific Theatre. John was an avid golfer and had proudly shot four holes-in-one.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife Nora in 2002 and four sisters Mary, Gen, Jo, & Frances. He is survived by his children John(Betty) of Medina, Tom(Diane) of Danville, CA, Jim (Laura) of Ijamsville, MD, and Kathleen (Charles Ross) Platner of Pearland, TX; grandchildren John (Brooke) Platner, Suzanne (Eric) Mayes, and Anne, Greg, Chase, Shelby, & Jackson Platner; great-grandchildren Ryan, Jacob, Chelsea, Ian, & Nora.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, 10 am, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1905 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
