Obituary of Alfonso Angelo Difeo
Alfonso 'Funz' Angelo DiFeo Jr., 90, passed away peacefully Saturday March 17, 2018.
Born in Akron on October 1, 1927 to the late Alfonso & Palmina DiFeo, Al was a lifelong area resident. After graduating from Garfield in 1946, Al went on to serve in the US Coast Guard and then returned to help run the family poultry business on Grant Street in South Akron. He married Catherine Pedone in 1950 and together raised 7 children. Funz spent many years attending sports and other events at St. Vincent Elementary and High School while his children were students there. He and Catherine moved to Firestone Park in 1985 where they rejoined his childhood Parish of St. Paul. They enjoyed traveling to Italy and Medjugorje several times, as well as Fatima and Guadalupe. Al both practiced and taught martial arts, giving instruction to his children and their friends. He helped bring DiFeo and Sons Poultry to their 100th year, continuing to work at the Chicken House until just this year. Al will be remembered for his unusual sense of humor and his genuine spirit.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years Catherine, and 8 siblings. He is survived by his children Mark, Joe, Jim (Kathy), Bob (Susan), John, Lisa (Bob) Joyce, & Eddie (Tabitha); sister Rosalie Rich; sisters-in-law Marian DiFeo, Antoinette Mellini, and Theresa (Jim) Haines; 24 grandchildren; 4 great- grandchildren; and many other nieces & nephews.
Thank you to Summa at Home Hospice for their compassionate care. In a special way, we thank Joe DiFeo for his incredible care for our parents for the last 2 years.
