Obituary of Stephen Anthony Kertesz

Stephen A. Kertesz, 91, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Pleasantview Care Center. Steve was born January 2, 1927 to Stephen and Mary (Baumgardner) Kertesz in South Bend, IN and had been an area resident most of his life. He was a graduate of St. Vincent High School. He was a veteran of the Army during WWII. Steve's father began the Kertesz Funeral Home in 1928 and Steve began his career as a funeral director and embalmer in 1966, eventually opening a location on Manchester Rd. In 1987 Kertesz Funeral Home merged with Kucko-Anthony Funeral Home where Steve worked until his retirement in 2000. Steve was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was past president of the Summit County Funeral Directors Association, Kenmore Board of Trade and Kenmore Kiwanis. He was a member of the National and Ohio Funeral Directors Associations, VFW Post 3383 and Allenside Athletic Club. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3410 and a 4th Degree Member of the Monsignor O'Keefe Council for over 50 years. Steve was preceded in death by his beloved wife Glory Ann (Smith) in 2016 and his sister Mary Jane (Russ) Wheeler. He is survived by his children Kim (Paul) Birk and Stephen W. Kertesz and granddaughter Emily Birk. The family will receive friends Wednesday 5 to 8 pm at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main St., Akron OH 44301, where a K of C Rosary will be recited at 7:30pm. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2101 17th St. SW, Akron, OH 44314. Mass will be followed by a luncheon at the funeral home community room and interment with Military Honors will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery Thursday at 1:30pm .
