BARBERTON - James P. "Jim" Kennedy, 89, died peacefully in his sleep on March 2 at his home, with his wife Pauline by his side.
Jim was born in Akron to the late Emmett and Mary (Payne) Kennedy, and lived in the Barberton/Akron area his entire life. Jim graduated from Kenmore HS in 1946 where he was a member of the swim team. For 4 years he worked as a brakeman for the Pennsylvania Railroad, he served 11 years in the U.S. Naval Reserves, and he sold automobiles for 44 years, including over 40 years at Wallace Lincoln Mercury. Jim was a charter member of St. Francis de Sales Parish, he belonged to the Knights of Columbus #1617, and participated in the St. Augustine Holy Hour program. Jim enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, and especially spending time with his family.
Jim will be deeply missed by Pauline, his loving wife of nearly 62 years, and by his children Diane, Dr. James (Maria), and Kathy (Stephen) Pramik. Jim is also survived by his sister Sr. Delphine Kennedy, CSJ, sister-in-law Delorse Mae Kennedy, nieces and nephews, Dr. Zabih (Sara) Habib and sons, and many other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Thomas Francis, brothers Bill and Wayne, infant sister Mary Mabel, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law (Paul and Marilyn Masich). The family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Jim's devoted caregivers, including his daughter Diane, who had the joy and privilege of caring for him the past three years.
Jim was the strong-hold of his family with a deep faith, unbounding patience, positive easy-going attitude, and total devotion to his family. His gentle, quiet nature was an inspiration and legacy for all who had the privilege of knowing him. A selfless man with many talents, he was the ultimate husband, father, brother, and friend.
