Obituary of Jack Laverne McAvinew
'Captain' Jack McAvinew, 85, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2018.
Born in Akron on October 14, 1932 to the late William & Elsie McAvinew, Jack was a lifetime area resident and a 1951 graduate of Kenmore High School. He worked for Goodyear Aerospace and then later as a fishing charter captain on Lake Erie. Jack was an avid fisherman and had fished all over the world.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Irene; former wife Norma Price; his children Jennie Cuppett, Jody (Brian) Field, & Eric (Dorothy) McAvinew; step-children David (Crystal) Lees & Sherry (Paul) McIntyre; grandchildren Brian Cuppett, Zachary (Alysha) and Joseph Field, & Rachel and Jack McAvinew; step-grandchildren David (Sarah) Lees, Shari (Buck) Walker & Eric (Krysta) McIntyre; great-grandchildren Jasey Field & Meena Sassano; step-great-grandchildren David & Isaac Lees, and Abby Fogo; sister Evelyne (Wally) Bates, as well as nieces, a nephew, and great-nieces & nephews.
A memorial service will take place on Monday, March 12th, 6pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, where the family will receive friends starting at 4pm until the time of the service. A reception will immediately follow at the funeral home.
