Obituary of Nicolaos I. Filippousis

Nicolaos Ioannis Filippousis, 87, fell asleep in the Lord on February 11, 2018. He was born February 10, 1931 in the village Ktikados on the island of Tinos, Greece. He arrived in the United States in 1951 on the ship Nea Hellas. He became a proud citizen and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. Nicolaos dedicated his entire life to providing for his family. He served the church he loved as Neochoros for over thirty years where he was privileged to be part of the special moments in the lives of so many. He especially loved the children of our church community. Everyone has a "Niko" story. Nicolaos has been a loving, supportive husband to his wife of 57 years, Vasiliki Filippousis. He was a proud father to his daughters Ange Filippousis- Hughes (Mark) and Jane McKivigan (Brian) and to Aleca Karas whom he considered his daughter as well. Her boys Blake and Michael were the first to call him Pappou. He cherished and doted over his granddaughters, Chrysoula and Athena Hughes whom he both adored. He also had a special place in his heart for his Goddaughter Katerina. Nicolaos is also survived by his sister Aphrodite Dramitinos and brother Ioannis (Anna) Roychitsas of Greece and many beloved nieces and nephews. Nicolaos was preceded in death by his grandfather Ioannis (Dionysia)Filippousis and his mother Zabeta Roychitsa.
