Curtis graduated from Central High School in 1960 and entered the Army where he was a mail clerk. Curtis was on guard duty in Berlin, Germany when the wall went up. Curtis met the love of his life, his soulmate Ilse on a blind date while he was in Berlin and were married for over 53 years. They were never seen apart and Ilse had been his primary caregiver during his illness. In 1966 Curtis brought his little family to Akron after his time in the military was completed. Curtis was employed by Goodyear Tire for many years before being laid off. He wasl also employed by Nolan Douglas, United Stationers, & finally S.I.A. Adhesives until his health for a medical retirement at 65 years young. Curtis loved a good joke and was well known for his pranks. He had a gift for gab and telling stories. His grandsons will be forever thankful for the years they spent with papa and all the things he taught them. They had a bond that time & distance couldn't erase. He regretted that he was unable to spend as much physical time with his youngest grandson and precious granddaughter. The family would like to thank Dr. Irene Chenowith, and all of his doctors for their care and the time they took to make Curtis' last months as peaceful as they were. Also a very special thanks to close friend Lynne Hamilton and the entire staff in the Palliative Care Unit at City Hospital. The family will receive friends TODAY, 5-8 pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Mark Hanchett on Wednesday, 12 pm at St. John Lutheran Church 550 E. WIlbeth Rd. in Akron, where Curtis will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.
