Obituary of Walter Tomko

Walter Tomko, 92, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017 at his home after a brief illness. Walter was born June 23, 1925 to John and Mary (Zwiezenska) Tomko in Akron and had been an area resident his entire life. He was a salesman for Fiocca's and Waterloo Supply over 50 years. He was a life time active member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, VFW Post 3383, Jednota Branch 553 and the Ukrainian Veterans Association. He was a founding member of the Army-Navy Post 250 and was a veteran of the Army during WWII. Walt was preceded in death by his wife Millie in 1983 and siblings John and Mike Tomko, Ann Fasko, Sophie Geraci, Pauline Rice and Julie Johnston. He is survived by his children Cheryl (William) Dunn and Cynthia (Chris) Ross; grandchildren Katherine Ross and Sean, Connor and Madeline Dunn. The family will receive friends Wednesday 3 to 6 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St., Akron OH 44301 where a Parastas service will be held Wednesday at 6 pm. Funeral services will begin Thursday at 9:30am at the funeral home and will continue with a Divine Liturgy at 10:00am at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment Northlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1866 Brown St., Akron OH 44301. (Anthony, AKRON)
