Obituary of Irene Margaret Hill

Irene M. Hill (nee Pirnik), 98, died peacefully in the evening on Tuesday, December 12, 2017.

 Irene was born January 5, 1919 in Coldridge, Ohio to Susan and George (Arway) Pirnik and had been an Akron resident most of her life.  She worked many years at Akwell Corp. and Forest City Enterprises.  She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.  Irene prayed the Rosary every day.  In 2009, she was named ‘Woman of the Year’ at St. John.

 Irene loved to cook.  Her husband Earl said, “The reason I married Mom was because of her cooking.”  Mom enjoyed listening to the Cleveland Indians and was their biggest fan.  She enjoyed Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, playing cards, bowling, playing the slots, polka music and being with her family.  She was a member of the Prime Timers.  If you called her on the phone she would always say, “Thanks for calling.”

 In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death her husband of 51 years Earl; brothers George (Bev) and John (Martha) Pirnik and brother-in-law Henry ‘Bud’ Ray and his niece Donna Ray.

 Irene is survived by children Raymond (Marsha) Hill and Susan (Daniel) Stefancik; grandchildren Jennifer (Nathan) Jedinak, Kevin (Christina) Hill and Kimberly Stefancik; great grandchildren Sasha Jedinak and Addison Hill; sister Marian Ray; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Helen Capobianco, Jean Hay, Sally Starks, Doris Lewis, Mary Weldon, Maxine Chapman, Claire Harbarger and Lilly Plum.

 The family will receive friends Sunday 2 to 5 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St., Akron OH 44301 where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm.  A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 10:00 am at St. John the Baptist Church, 1034 Brown St. Akron OH 44301.  Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.  Donations may be made to St. John the Baptist, 87 Broad St., Akron OH 44305.
