Obituary of Helmar Herman Adolf Dollwet

Helmar H. A. Dollwet PhD, passed away Wednesday October 25, 2017 at his home. Helmar was born January 20, 1929 to Euguin and Johanna (Jacobs) Dollwet in in Merzig, Germany. In 1955 he came to the United States on an athletic scholarship to run track for the University of Michigan. Later, he received a National Defense and Education Act Scholarship to work toward a PhD degree at the University of California. His areas of study were biochemistry and plant physiology. At the completion of his studies he came to the University of Akron and taught in the Biology Department retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and Army-Navy Post 250. In spite of his successes in athletics and in his professional life, Helmar remained a humble and modest man. He had many friends from all walks of life. He once told his wife Helga that he wanted to be remembered only as a hard working and honest man. Helmar adored his wife Helga (Kalinke) and wants to be remembered by his children John (Peggy), Erika (Sam), Chrisitian and Nicole Dollwet; step children Rachelle (Jim) Smith, Antonio (Jennifer) Cursio, Pietro (Barbie) Cursio, Erika (Keith) Perrin and Lucia Cursio; mother of his children Midred Vidrih; 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday 2 to 5 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron OH 44319. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday 10:00 am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Cremation will follow. Donations may be made to St. Francis de Sales, 4019 Manchester Rd, Akron, OH 44319 or the Army-Navy Post 250. (Anthony AKRON)
