Obituary of Joyce Anne Justice

Joyce Anne (O'Neal) Justice, 68, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2017 with her loving family by her side. She was born January 5, 1949 in Akron, Ohio to James & Loretta O'Neal. Joyce attended West Junior High School and Firestone Senior High School while growing up in West Akron. Following in the footsteps of her mother, she pursued nursing as her career path. She went on to graduate from the St. Thomas School of Nursing in 1973. Joyce began her career with Visiting Nurse Services and continued on to Akron General Medical Center working in mental health for the majority of her career. After 42 years in the profession, she retired from Community Support Services Inc. She was blessed to have an amazing network of loving and caring colleagues who supported her throughout her career and beyond. In 1975, she married the love of her life, Gene, after first meeting at the M. O'Neil Co. in downtown Akron. The two settled in Firestone Park and became parishioners at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Joyce was the proud mother of two sons, Charles Andrew and Patrick Aaron, and even prouder Grandmother to Hannah Ryleigh & Connor Jackson. She loved entertaining the grandchildren at "Nana's" house, getting sneak previews of Hannah's newest dance routines, and spending time with Connor outside on the patio. Joyce looked forward to annual summer vacations on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, especially the beaches of Cape Hatteras. An avid seashell collector, you could always find her on the hunt for the perfect Conch shell. Back at home, Joyce enjoyed spending her free time in the garden and planting her favorite flowers. Creating memorable birthday and holiday celebrations for her family became Joyce's passion. There was no sense of moderation when it came to food preparation as she would never allow anyone to leave her home hungry. The holiday season always held a special place in Joyce's heart. Cooking, decorating, and preparing for big family get-togethers became second nature for her, year after year. Joyce was the Anchor and Guardian Angel of the entire family, always placing priority on everyone but herself. Caring for family members and friends who were ill or in need became her driving force. Joyce truly embodied the profession of Nursing and touched the lives of everyone she met. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, James & Loretta O'Neal; mother-in-law, Patricia Justice; brother, Ted O'Neal. She is survived by her husband, Gene; sons, Charles (Karie), Patrick (Heather); grandchildren, Hannah & Connor; aunts, Verneda (Dale) Brooks, Geneva (June) Corrigan; sister, Sally O'Neal Lucas (John); brothers, Tom & Fred O'Neal; sister-in-law, Sallie Caplinger; brother-in-law, Michael Justice; nieces and nephews, Nicole (Brian) Taylor, Adam (Kristen) Leslie, Victoria (Jeremy) Kick, Michael (Kelsie) Justice, Britney (Zach) Mottice, Jonathan O'Neal, Caitlin and Michael John O'Neal, Les (Jennifer) Lucas, Mark (Erica) Lucas, Tiffany (Chris) Halleck, and numerous great nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family.
