Rudolf (Rudy) was born December 10, 1929, in Akron, Ohio to Austrian parents, Rudolf and Sofie Hinderegger who immigrated to the United States one year before his birth. In 1939, Rudy's grandmother came from Austria to visit the young family and stayed with them during World War II.
Rudy was a history buff and taught social studies and economics in the Akron Public Schools for 35 years. He had a strong love of history and would pick up any history book, especially those about Europe and World War II. He graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management and History and a Master's Degree in Education. At the University of Akron, he was elected to Phi Alpha Theta (History Honorary), Lone Star Fraternity and the Newman Club. In 1967, he was named a Jennings Scholar, a recognition of excellence in teaching.
In later years he was honored by the Cuyahoga Falls Athletic Hall of Fame, the Cuyahoga Falls Amateur Baseball Association Hall of Fame and Lone Star Fraternity Hall of Fame. Rudy was also a long-time member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Cuyahoga Falls.
He is survived by Jeanne, his wife of 51 years and their four children, Matthew (Kim) of Jackson Township, Paul (Barb) of Copley, Beth (Scott) of Cuyahoga Falls and Sally (Mike) of Rockville Centre, New York. Rudy is survived by 8 grandchildren who fondly referred to him as "Opa." He was preceded in death by his sister Lois.
