John Graves

Obituary of John Franklin Graves

John Franklin Graves went home to be with his Lord, peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 20, 2017. He was born on November 24, 1926 in Akron. His goal was to make it to age 90 and he did it! John served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 1946. John retired from B.F. Goodrich after 42 ½ years of service. He was also a bus driver for Manchester schools. We lost a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa. We’ll miss his smile, his laugh and his suspenders! John loved his family and any time they got together he was his happiest. He had a passion for old cars, loved taking his 1939 Ford to car shows and digging through old car parts. John leaves behind his lifetime love of 68 years, Betty. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Linda Graves; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Gene Schindewolf; grandchildren, Nate and Stephanie Schindewolf, Matt and Jessica Graves and Nela and Tim Lucey; great-grandchildren, Aden, Zach and Trey Graves, Jordan, Mia, Kennedy and Tyler Schindewolf and Ava, Brady, Sophia and Josh Lucey; and brother and sister-in-law, Wendell and Marge Graves. Calling hours will be held Thursday, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron, Ohio 44301. Funeral service Friday, 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Jon George officiating. Interment at Manchester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd. Akron, Ohio 44333.
