Obituary of Patricia Ann Jawyn

Patricia A. Jawyn, 68, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with ALS. Patricia was born in Marysville, OH, to the late Paul & Rose Ann Boerger. She grew up on a dairy farm where she learned love of the land & faith in God. Patricia graduated from Fairbanks High School & wrote the school alma mater. She received her B.A. from Capital University, & spent a year abroad studying at The University of Paris/The Sorbonne. Patricia received her M.A. in French from The University of Akron, where she met the love of her life & devoted husband of 41 years, Jerry Jawyn. Patricia taught French at Ellet High School for 32 years before retiring in 2011. She was dedicated to her students inside & outside of the classroom; attending students' sporting events with her husband was important & she cherished supporting the Orangemen. Patricia loved to watch her daughter play softball for The College of Wooster & cheering on the Fighting Scots. Patricia was a devoted fan of the Cleveland Indians & Cavaliers. She belonged to Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church, & was a member of the choir. Patricia's strong faith in God was exalted by her beautiful voice. Patricia is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry; daughter Natalie Barissi (Matthew) & grand-dog Loretta ;siblings Karen Turk (Vic), Susan Calvo (Kim), Dorothy Joseph (Alfred, deceased), Debbie Burbach (Reinhold, deceased), Bill Boerger (Sharon); sister-in-law Lucy Rusk, Irene Hurguy (Anthony, deceased), Martha Sereda (Tony),brother-in-law Andrew Jawyn (Michele); many nieces & nephews;cousins Beth, Mary, Miriam,&Jeanne;dearest friends Rich,Vicky &Diane. The family would like to extend special thanks to Crossroads Hospice (Kim, Melissa, Andrea, Irena, Karen, Erica) & to doctors & nurses at Summa/Akron City ICU. Friends may call at THE KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S MAIN ST,AKRON, MONDAY, JANUARY 2, 2017, 5-8 PM, Parastas 7:30 PM. Funeral services will begin with prayers at 9:30 AM TUESDAY, JANUARY 3, 2017 at funeral home, followed by divine liturgy at 10 AM at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1866 Brown St. Internment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS association of Northern OH, 6155 Rockside Rd #403, Independence, OH 44131 or to Ellet High School Athletics.
