Obituary of Margaret Walters

Margaret passed away March 25, 2016 at the age of 104 at the Colonies of Windsor in North Canton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Leroy Walters, daughter-in-law Frances Fundoukos Walters, parents Michal and Suzzanna Barno, her brothers (and sisters-in-law) Michael (Eleanor), Joseph (Mildred), George (Anna), her sisters (and brothers-in-law) Mary (Joseph) Orihel, and Anna (John) Godal. Margaret is survived by her son David and his wife Toni, her grandchildren Theresa (Terri) Teital and James Corcoran, and Jeffrey and his wife Val, great grandchildren Brandon Teitel, Isabella Walters and Evangeline Walters. She is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews who brought her much joy. Peg was born Margaret Victoria Barno in the hard coal country of north central Pennsylvania in Cambria Township near Barnesboro. She was 3 months old when the Titanic sank, and 2 ½ years old when WWI began. She moved to Akron in her early teens to live with her 2 older sisters and assist them with their children. She graduated from Garfield High School in Firestone Park in 1930. Margaret and Charles Walters married in 1938, and welcomed their son David in 1942, shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Charles was sent to Luzon in the Philippines in 1944. After Charles returned from the war they built a home in Firestone Park and David entered grade school. Margaret became employed by Polsky's Department Store where her career culminated as the buyer in the China and Gift Department. In the mid 1970's Margaret and Charles moved to Cape Coral, Florida. While in Florida they enjoyed the sunshine with old and new friends. Margaret enjoyed cooking, baking, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends. The family is grateful to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at The Colonies of Windsor for the special attention and care given to Margaret. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 PM Friday, April 1,2016 at the Anthony & Son Funeral Home, 4178 Massillon Rd. in Green (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads in Green, entrance off of Steese Rd.) Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. (Anthony, Green, 330-899-9790, anthonyfh.com)
