Obituary of Sherman W. Grant
Sherman W Grant, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 19, 2015 surrounded by his family, friends and neighbors.
Sherman was born in Akron on October 14, 1932 to Sherman M. and Dorothea A. (White) Grant. He married Rochelle Joyce Righter in 1953. Having graduated from Akron West High School in 1950, he attended Miami University and Akron University. He served in the U. S Army at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama as a repair instructor on the Nike Missile Systems. He worked for many years in Electronic Engineering drafting, design, production, and finally in Purchasing at several companies including Goodyear Aerospace, working on many military and NASA computer systems, as well as several other local companies such as American Beverage, Telxon and NeTeam working on projects as diverse as the seat back video displays for airlines and automated bar tending equipment.
Sherm was treasurer of Lakebreeze Association for more than 50 years, a member of the Green Historical Society, Green Fair Committee, Greensburg Lions club, Green AARP and a volunteer for the Massillon Food Bank. He loved boating and water sports in his younger years, taking up bowling and golf later on. He attended St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren. Sherm retired at 72 years of age and spent the last decade of his life trading stocks and traveling to visit family and friends.
Sherm was preceded in death by his wife, Rochelle Joyce in 2014; and is survived by his children, Victoria (Ed) Straub of Clarksville, IN, Kim (Mike) Annunziata of Englewood, FL, and Paul (Angie) Grant of Manchester, OH; and sisters in law Jeanne Eckroad and Cindy (John) Righter Regan; grandchildren, Eric (Natalie) Roellig, Melinda Roellig, Valerie Annunziata, Michael Annunziata, Silas Grant, Jacob (Nichole) Grant, and great grandchildren Jacob and Daniel; beloved friends Mae Packen and Dale Vernyi; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, December 22 from 11am to 1pm followed by the funeral service at 1pm at the Anthony & Son Funeral Home of Green, 4178 Massillon Rd. (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads, entrance off of Steese Rd.) Uniontown, Ohio 44685. Rev. Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating. Interment at Greensburg Cemetery.
