Obituary of Donald Edward Ondecker

Donald E. Ondecker, Sr., 78, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Akron City Hospital surrounded by his family. Born on July 3, 1937, Don was raised by the late George and Agnes Ondecker in Akron and has been a lifelong area resident. He married his high school sweetheart, and the love of his life, Patricia Horvath in 1958, and together they raised five loving children. Don worked for Acme Grocery Company as an assistant store manager and a data processing manager, retiring after 43 years. In his retirement, he worked at the Akron Auto Auction for eight years. Don and Pat had a passion for East Coast Swing dancing and traveling all around the country. He was a charter member of Ohio North Coast Jitterbug Club. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by Teta Evelyn Trusley. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia; children Donny Jr. (Darlene), Bobby (Laura), Mark, Lori Koehler, and John (Lori); brothers Dick & Larry; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Kim, his doctors and the Pulmonary Critical Care Unit at Summa Hospital and especially Sue. The family will receive friends and relatives TOMORROW, Monday, November 30 from 5-8 PM at the Anthony & Son Funeral Home, 4178 Massillon Road in Green (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads. Entrance is off of Steese). Funeral services will take place Tuesday at 12:30 at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior. Interment at Sunset Hill Memory Garden on Frank Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Family Life Center, 4700 S. Main St. Akron, OH 44319.
