Obituary of Ruth Lillian Thompson

Ruth Thompson, 86, passed away on November 24, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 17, 1929 to the late James & Conway Woody, Ruth and her family moved to Akron in 1943. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by brother James, youngest daughter and son-in-law Nancy & Jimmy Corcoran, and son-in-law Luke Jones. Ruth is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 68 years Arthur, whom she met and married in 1947 when he returned from the Navy; brother William Woody; Sons Art (Ginger) and Terry (Jan) Thompson and daughter Carol Wymer and daughter & caregiver Debbie Jones, as well as 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Ruth loved fishing and spent many vacations with family and friends in Canada. She also enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans and dolls for family and friends. Ruth retired from Akron City Hospital in 1991. In 1989, Ruth was awarded second place for 'Suggester of the Year' and some of her suggestions are still being used in the hospital today. Starting in 1992 Art & Ruth began spending their winters in Fort Myers, FL where they spent many days playing cards with their friends. Summers were spent in Cuyahoga Falls. A funeral service will take place on Friday, 1:00 pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home MCGOWAN-REID & SANTOS CHAPEL 247 Stow Ave. (at Third St., one block north of Portage Trail in) Cuyahoga Falls. The family will receive friends on Friday, beginning at 11:00 am until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
