Obituary of Dorothy Jean Gligor

Dorothy Jean “Honey” Gligor age 83 passed away on October 8, 2015. Honey was born on August 18, 1932 to the late Paul and Millie Vuykov in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Akron Kenmore High School in 1950 and attended Kent State University and the Akron Bible Institute. She was a member and attended St. Demetrius Serbian Orthodox church until retirement. As a teenager Honey was the youngest member of the church choir. She was the president of the Church School Mothers Club and a Sunday School Teacher for 27 years. Honey was a proud member of the Kolo Srpski Sestara since 1960. Honey cared for six of her dear family members during their many years of illness. After retirement in 1998, Honey and her loving husband Budd moved to Sun City Arizona. She returned to Canton, Ohio five years after her beloved husband passed away. Honey loved living close to her daughter Paula who was always there for her mom. In her early days Honey enjoyed doing church work and Sunday school work, painting, reading, doing puzzles and playing card games. Honey was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Stanley “Budd” Gligor, sisters Kathryn (Luther) Hoggle, and Sophie (Tod) Borkman. She is survived by her daughter Paula (Scott) Whetstone, dear grandson David Whetstone, nephews Paul (Valerie) Hoggle, Malin (Jean) Tusko, Spencer (Debbie) Tuczakov, Stanley Tuczakov, niece Dana (Greg) Miller, sister in law Maria Jones, and God-children and Kumovi Tamara and Tomislav Simich. Special thanks go to the entire staff at The Inn at Whitewood Village for their kindness and loving care given to Honey. Also many thanks and appreciation to Dr. Karin Riggs and staff at Primary Care Physicians, Dr. Arnie Nothnagle and staff at Ohio Retina, Dr. Stephen Denning and the staff at Cardiovascular Consultants, and Dr. Stephen Salapak and his dental staff. Honey enjoyed getting her hair done through the years with her wonderful friends Jane, Marie, Cheryl, and Lola and appreciated their friendship along with the kind stylists at Whipple Beauty. She loved going out to eat with her Akron Serbian luncheon buddies and had many memories of her friends and fun times at her home parish of St. Demetrius. Also, a very special thank you goes to the church family at St. George in North Canton for being so giving and caring to Honey when she attended church there. The family will receive friends on Sunday October 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 South Main Street, Akron, Ohio 44301 where a Parastas service will be held at 6 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday October 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Demetrius Serbian Orthodox Church, 3106 Ridgewood Road, Akron where the Very Rev. Djordje Mileusnich will officiate. Friends may also pay their respects at the church one hour prior to the service.
