Obituary of Marie Caroline Bittner
Marie Caroline Bittner peacefully went home to be with her Lord, July 31.
No matter where life took Marie, she never met a stranger. She looked at every person as another human being, equally deserving of kindness and respect. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church where she and her mother enjoyed a religious bonding.
During her formative years, she moved to the Akron area and pursued a business career with the rubber industry after attending Business College. She graduated with honors, which were her keys to success as she joined B.F. Goodrich Co. During her 40 years of service, she rose to the coveted position of Executive Secretary to district managers, and then transferred to office of the President of B.F.Goodrich Co.
It was during those early days that Marie and her husband, Charles, met on the dance floors of Akron and elsewhere. They were married in 1941 and within a few months were separated for 4 years, while Charles entered the US Navy in WW 2.
Marie was an active member of Shady Hollow Country Club for 57 years and relished the championship many years in several classes. She left Shady and was noted for her popularity with all the membership. She was also active in Bridge tournaments and earned a Master status after participation in several national tournaments.
She was preceded in death by parents George and Caroline Turner and brother Bill Turner. She will be sadly missed by her husband and soulmate, Charles, with whom she shared 75 years of marriage. The memory of her smile will continue to light up the world as it has for 98 years.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12 to 2 pm at Hope Lutheran Church where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 pm. Pastor Jack Kozak officiating. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery following the services. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Humane Society of Greater Akron, in honor of Marie's support and lifetime membership.
