Obituary of Norman L. Wingate

-Silver Lake Norman L. Wingate 80, passed away on July 15, at Grand Village Care Center in Twinsburg. Born on March 26, 1935 to the late Elzy & Minnie Wingate, Norm had been a lifetime area resident. He was an active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Cuyahoga Falls. Norm was a teacher and principal for the Akron Public School System for 30 years retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Akron Optimist Club and the Cuyahoga Falls Breakfast Optimist Club and served as president for both clubs and lieutenant governor as well. Norm volunteered for many years for the Childrens Hospital Holiday Tree Festival. In addition to his parents, Norm was preceded in death by his brother Vernon. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ellen of Silver Lake; their children Richard (Lora), David (Julie), Kimberly, and Pamela Wingate; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter, as well as his niece Valerie. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 11 am to 1 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home MCGOWAN-REID & SANTOS CHAPEL 247 Stow Ave. (at Third St., one block north of Portage Trail in) Cuyahoga Falls, where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park in Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Cleveland Clinic 6801 Brecksville, Rd.
