Obituary of Joseph Andrew Denholm

Joe Denholm Joseph Denholm Jr., 77, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Joe was a 1956 graduate of North High School. He joined the Akron fire department in 1968 and was in the first class of paramedics in 1978. After his retirement in 1991 he attended the University of Akron where he earned a degree in Community Services Technology. Through the AmeriCorps VISTA program, he worked for Project LEARN for several years teaching adults to read. Joe's faith in Christ and heart to serve impacted the local communities leaving a mark that cannot be erased. He was active in his parish, St. Paul Catholic Church, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, retired firefighters association, and The Catholic Charities hot meal program at Holy Trinity parish. Preceded in death by his parents Joe Sr. and Annette and toddler son Christopher, and brother Denis. Joe is survived by his amazing wife of 57 years, Sandi, his children Denis, Constance, Tracey (Robert) Rardin, Karen (Dan) Matusicky; grandchildren Kian (Cherise) and Elyse Denholm, Lisa and Catherine Rardin, Daniel (Missy) Matusicky, Sarah (Zak) Keplinger and Maria and Jesse Matusicky; 2 great grandchildren Deckland Denholm. Eilie Matusicky and one expected soon; brother Anthony (Patty); and sisters Mary Ann Reinsch, Carol (Dave) Fitzgerald, Donna (Pete) Lillo and Stephanie (Mark) Howieson. The family is very grateful to his many friends who prayed, visited and kept him smiling, full of love and great food. Special thanks to those who are called to serve at The VNS Ridgewood Hospice Care Center. Visitation will be held at Anthony Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main Street in Akron Friday 4 to 8 p.m., where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm and Last Alarm will take place at 7:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown Street, Akron OH 44301, 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to St. Paul's Parish and Akron-Canton Regional Food bank.
