Ann Blondin

Obituary of Ann E. Blondin

Ann Elizabeth Blondin (nee Grannan), 73, passed away May 17, 2015 at Akron General. She was born November 4, 1941 in Evansville, IN. to the late Ambrose and Catherine (Cullivan) Grannan. She was a 1959 graduate of Mater Dei High School in Evansville. Ann resided in Akron for the last 40 years. She retired in 2007 after 17 years of service as an Assistant Claims Representative for Grange Mutual Casualty Company. Proud of her Irish heritage, she was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians-Margaret Judge Division and served as the Sunshine Lady and head of the Calling Committee. She was also a social member of the Sokol Club and member of the Slovene Pensioners Organization. Ann was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church and its ministries and thoroughly enjoyed going to breakfast with the after-church crowd every Sunday. She also enjoyed her dinners with the Hackers group and lunches with the golden girls and the pensioneers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1991 by her husband of 28 years, Richard; infant grandson Ryan Mitchell Hardesty; brother, Ed Grannan; and, in-laws Ed and Martha Blondin, Larry Blondin and Sharon Golden. Left to cherish her loving memory are Ann’s five devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Joe Langton, Susan Segers and Bill Segers, Debbie and Dennis Hardesty, Barbara and David Grant, and Amy Blondin; her 12 adoring grandchildren, Ashlyn, Trent and Carley Segers; Hannah, Samuel and Meghan Hardesty; Erynne and Joshua Grant and Becca (Matt) Cyc; Andrea, Courtney and Lindsey Von Stein; and her precious great-granddaughter Allison Brooke Cyc. Ann will be greatly missed by her very special, loving and dear friend Tom Hafler and his family. Ann is also survived by her dearly loved sisters and brother-in-law Mary Grannan and Sara and Kenny Hart, all of Evansville; the Blondin in-laws, Eddie and Jonny, Roger and Nancy, David, Mary and David, Julie and Jim, Caroline and Tony, and J.D., and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends, all who thought the world of her. Ann was a down-to-earth, compassionate, generous, loving woman who had a good sense of humor and quick wit. Her greatest pride and joy was her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her favorite pastime was sewing and quilting. One of her greatest accomplishments was to gift each of her daughters and grandchildren (and Joe, too!) with a handmade quilt. Truly a labor of love! The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Robert Kamienski and Dr. David Cutler for the care they gave Mom for the last 21 years. Most recently, we’d like to add thanks to the physicians and nursing staff on 9100 and the SICU at Akron General. Because of all of you and by the grace of God, we shared one more Mother’s Day with our Mom.
