Obituary of Alexander Peter Hirschfelt

Alexander P. Hirschfelt, 91, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Brookdale Barberton. Al owned and operated Hirschfelt’s Bakery on Grant Street in Akron for 33 years until 1988 and is now baking the best bread in Heaven. Al was born October 14, 1923 to Casper and Catherine (Wiehele) Hirschfelt in Akron and had been an area resident his entire life. He was a veteran of the army during WWII. He was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, the ABC Polka Club and was a Third Degree member K of C Council 3410. Al is survived by his wife of 68 years Mary (Vanchoff); children Maryanne Johnson, Phillip Hirschfelt, Roseanne (Arch) Rose, Paula (Tom) Woods and Barbara (Rick) Twigg; grandchildren Tony (Michelle), Jeff (Erin) and Greg (Myra) Clement, Brian (Sarah), Daniel (Joey) and Timothy (Lori) Rose, Roianne (Dennis) McCann and Sunnie Woods; 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his infant son Michael in 1960. The family is especially grateful the entire staff at Brookdale Barberton and Tom, Cathy and Nancy of Brookdale Hospice for their loving care and attention. The family will receive friends Wednesday 5 to 8 Pm at the Anthony and Son Funeral Home, 4178 Massillon Rd. (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads in Green; entrance off of Steese Rd.) , where a K of C. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 Am in Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Rd. Uniontown. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
