Obituary of Donald David Olenick

Donald D. Olenick, 79, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Barberton Citizens Hospital. Don was born April 21, 1936 to John and Mary (Polovick) Olenick in Akron and had been an Akron area resident his entire life. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was a brick mason with Bricklayers Local 7 for over 50 years. He was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Akron and of St. Paul Antiochan Orthodox Church in Florida. He was also a member of Jednota Branch 553 and Eagles Aerie 2736. He loved golf, tennis and bowling and was a ranger at Sunny Hills Golf course for 17 years. Don is survived by his wife 56 years, Jean (Kronenthal); children Linda Slanta and Donnie (Jann) Olenick II; grandchildren Brett and Matthew Slanta and Hannah, Tyler and Jake Olenick; brothers Bob (Kay), Joe (Linda) and Mike (Jeanne) Olenick. The family will receive friends Friday 4 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron where a Parastas Service will be held Friday at 7:30 pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday 10:00 am at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 755 South Cleveland Ave., Mogadore, OH 44260. Interment with military honors will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
