Obituary of Norman Lee Karkalik

Our beloved Norman went to live with his loving Lord Thursday evening, April 16, 2015. Norman is survived by his brother Edward Karkalik of Torrance, CA and his sister Patricia Moore of Statesboro, GA.; uncle Fred Karkalik of Reno, NV; aunts Anne Witsaman of Akron & Ethel Memmer of Largo, FL; Heather, Christopher, & Anna, children of Edward and Joyce Karkalik and Jon White & Alexis DiGiambattista, children of Patricia Moore, as well as many other cousins, nieces, & nephews. Norman was preceded in death by his loving parents John & Ann Karkalik. Norman was a longtime resident of Echoing Meadows Residential Center in Athens, Ohio, which he called home with his family of over 35 residents & caregivers. He was also a longtime employee of Community Connections and was a member of the Church of Christ of Athens. Norman was a very generous, loving, caring, & giving man who touched thousands of lives in a positive way. He served as an adjunct to the faculty of Ohio University and provided invaluable resources & classroom instruction of communication, processes, skills, & equipment for individuals with disabilities. He also served on government committees and task forces to advance the understanding of the needs of individuals with disabilities, facilitating progress in removing barriers encountered by those individuals, and received commendations from the governor of Ohio for his achievements. Norman will be dearly missed by all of us. The family will receive friends TODAY from 10-11 am at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron.
