Obituary of Thurman J. Shanholtz

Thurman J. (Shorty) Shanholtz, 89, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. He was born in Akron on May 5, 1925 and lived in Kenmore most of his life. He was a graduate of Kenmore High School and then served in the Army during World War II. He was a graduate of Hammel Business College and retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Company with over 36 years of service. He was an avid sports fan and was known to make a wager or two. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the German American Club for many years. He was preceded in death by parents, Thurman W. and Gertrude (Barber) Shanholtz; sister, June M. Garrett; and brother, Richard L. Shanholtz. He is survived by daughters, Linda (Richard) Brower of Coventry Township and Vicki (Dennis) Petty of Stow; son, Scott Shanholtz of Akron; grandchildren, Scottie, Robert, Nathaniel and Micaela; great-grandchild, Izak; and companion of 54 years, Gloria Bogyus. Shorty was blessed with 3 childhood best friends; He is survived by Louis Nine, and waiting to greet him are Bill and Jerry Cull. The family will receive friends Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron, Ohio 44301. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601.
