Obituary of Anthony J. Kubilis
Anthony J. Kubilis Jr., 86, passed away Wednesday January 28th, 2015. He was born on July 6, 1928 in Youngstown to the late Anthony and Elizabeth (Pallatin) Kubilis.
Anthony (Tony) led a full and exciting life. He served as a hospital corpsman for the United States Navy, stationed in New York City, receiving an Honorable Discharge in April of 1948. He was later employed and retired from the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company (Bridgestone) where he began in the Wire-Tire Development Compounding Division. Upon completion of degrees from Youngstown State and Kent State Universities, Tony served as a chemist for the International Department which provided him ample opportunities for travel across the world. His travels have been the source of stories shared with many. Tony was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a long-time member of St. Francis de Sales Church. Additional activities enjoyed by Tony included bowling, golfing, fishing, cards, AARP trips, visiting family and friends, amusement parks, and pontoon boat excursions on Portage Lakes. Surely there are stories that had yet to be shared.
Anthony loved and provided for his wife Delores Jean (Herman) Kubilis until her death on October 12, 1992 having shared 40 years of marriage. Surviving are sons, Mark (Karen), Anthony Joseph (Stephanie); daughter, Michele Kubilis; grandsons, Mark Jr. and Michael; granddaughter, Tela; and great-grandsons, Ayden and John.
Anthony began a second chapter of his life (and next 20 years) upon meeting Helen Markel. Through Helen he came to know and love sons, Steve (Jenny), Bernie (Rene), Jim (Ann); and daughter, Elaine (Bill) Shean; along with many additional grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Anthony was preceded in death by his brother, William Kubilis; and sister, Rosann Baglama. Also surviving is sister, Betty Jean Dravecky; and brothers of Delores (Herman) Kubilis, Theodore Herman and Raymond Herman.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, a Mass/Service may be offered in his name or donations may be made to a charity of choice.
