Obituary of Ronald Charles Deger
Ronald Charles Deger, 68, of Barberton, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, January 23, 2015.
Ronnie was born August 11, 1946 in Akron, Ohio to parents, Clarence and Marie Deger. He graduated from Archbishop Hoban High School with the Class of 1968. Ronnie served America honorably and proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. In 1984, Ronnie married Lisa Blanc of Akron. In 1994, following 26 years of loyal service in the City of Akron Police Department, Officer Deger retired. He was a member in good standing of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2736, the American Legion Post 449, and the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 7. Ronnie was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Akron and member of the Knights of Columbus 3410, practicing many good works, guided by the principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.
Ronnie was a devoted son and brother, as well as a faithful and protecting husband and father. In addition to his parents, Clarence and Marie, Ronnie was preceded in death by his brothers; David, Gerald and Daniel Deger. He is survived by his loving family, including wife of 30 years, Lisa; children; Brian (Ellie Mae), Angela and Andrew; siblings, Theresa (Jerry) Hartman, Charles (Kathleen) Deger, Marsha (Terry) Porter, Cindy Deger and Kevin Deger; granddaughter, Sarah Deger; and numerous "favorite" nieces and nephews.
Ronnie was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He will be missed here, and forever remembered fondly by family and friends for his heartwarming humor, eager hospitality, and tender generosity. He was a friend to all, touching countless lives with an exceptionally soft heart for those in crisis or special need.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 27 from 4-8 PM at the Anthony Funeral Homes, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. Funeral services will begin 9:30 AM Wednesday with prayers at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Road in Akron. Interment will be Thursday at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, in Rittman at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
