Obituary of Henry Steve Bernat

Henry Steve Bernat, 93, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Henry was born on July 5, 1921 in Johnstown, PA to the late John and Catherine Bernat. He lived in Akron most his life, and worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for 31 years, retiring in 1982. After that, Henry worked as a courier for First National Bank and volunteered at St. Thomas and Akron General for many years. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II. Henry's passion for dancing earned him the nickname "Happy Feet" and he was a proud lifetime member of the Jitterbug Club in Cuyahoga Falls. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and of the Akron Barbershop Quartet. In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his siblings Edward, Joe (Mary), Fred (Dorothy), and Mary (Wesley) Siniawski; and nephew Bob Bernat. He is survived by his nieces Tina Siniawski (Tim Green), Kathleen (John) Govig, Linda Bernat, Theresa (Rich) Vorraber, and Maryann (Ron) Frances; nephews Ronald (Roberta), Thomas and David Bernat; and many great-nieces and nephews. A sincere thank you to all of Henry's friends and the staff at Cardinal Retirement Village. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-7 PM at the Anthony Funeral Homes, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 1905 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
