Grief After a National Tragedy
In the wake of tragedy, we find ourselves struggling to understand and process the events that occurred. Recently, the shootings of August 3rd and 4th have stirred many emotions in all of us, even if we weren’t there or related to any victims.
We still feel a sense of loss. We’ve lost any semblance of security, safety, and control. We empathize for those who lost their friends, spouses, parents, children, and loved ones. And we are saddened at the fact that people lost their lives at the hands of a stranger while they were simply going about their day. The victims are relatable to us because they were just average people living average lives like the rest of us.
It's no wonder we feel such sadness at this time.
In an effort to make things better, you can try and do something positive for the community. Donating blood or giving to fundraisers for the families of victims is a good place to start, but it can be broader than that. Right now there are tons of back-to-school drives for school supplies and clothes. Even volunteering your time in the community can help reinforce a sense of security and well-being.
The important thing to remember is that a community is stronger with love and positivity. Prayer vigils, memorial services, and fundraisers can help, but being kind is the best starting point. It might be hard to find joy right now, but finding kindness in ourselves and others can help spread the positivity that our communities desperately need.
