Obituary of Robert D. Dunnerstick

Dr. Robert D. Dunnerstick -GREEN Dr. Robert Dunnerstick, 63, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, & brother, passed away on September 29, 2014. Born in Cherry Point, NC on November 5, 1950 to Robert & Lorena Dunnerstick, Bob grew up in Perry Township and graduated from Perry High School in 1968. He obtained his bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in education from the University of Akron. Bob was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Green. Bob was a huge fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. He loved playing, coaching, and watching baseball. Bob had a very dry sense of humor and a quick wit. He loved to read and especially enjoyed history. Bob was one of a few Americans who loved Richard Nixon, much to the amusement of his family. A dedicated educator, Dr. Bob, as he was known to his students, was currently an Associate Professor of Education at Walsh University in N. Canton. He began his career as an elementary teacher in the Plain Local Schools in 1973 and went on to serve as an elementary school principal in the Buckeye & Warren School Districts before, becoming a superintendent in the Indian Valley Local School District at the young age of 29. He also served as superintendent of Highland Local Schools, where he built a reputation of rescuing financially troubled districts. In 1989, Dunnerstick became superintendent of the Lake Local Schools, leading the district through one of its worst financial periods during his seven-year tenure. Dunnerstick, who served as the chief operating officer at the Ohio Department of Education, joined the staff at Walsh University in 2003. Bob was preceded in death by his father Robert. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Debbie; his beloved mother Lorena and step-father Ken Morgan; children Kara (Eric) Beamish, Matthew Dunnerstick, Ryan Dunnerstick, Brian Schultz, Ashley Dunnerstick, & Kelsey Schultz; grandchildren Olivia, Parker, & Savannah; sister Elaine (Frank) Longo, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, & friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, 9am to 10:45am, at the Anthony Funeral Home GREEN CHAPEL, 4178 Massillon Rd. in Green (at the intersection of Rte. 241 & Steese Rd.; entrance off of Steese). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. David Durkee immediately following the calling hours, at 11:00 am, at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church 1800 Steese Rd. in Green (located across the street from the funeral home). The family will receive friends on Saturday, 9am to 10:45am, at the Anthony Funeral Home GREEN CHAPEL, 4178 Massillon Rd. in Green (at the intersection of Rte. 241 & Steese Rd.; entrance off of Steese). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. David Durkee immediately following the calling hours, at 11:00 am, at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church 1800 Steese Rd. in Green (located across the street from the funeral home).
