Obituary of Sally Kay Russell
Sally Kay Russell died at Stow Glen Retirement Center on Sunday, July 22, 2007. She was born in Cumberland, MD on July 1, 1935, the daughter of George and Mary Heckendorn. She graduated from Conneaut, OH high school and Westminster University in Pennsylvania majoring in Education and Music. She was passionate about music, her faith and her family. She taught music for thirty years at Sill Middle School, Lincoln Elementary School and Roberts Middle School of the Cuyahoga Falls City School System. She has been choir director at Bethany UCC Church in Cuyahoga Falls. At the time of her death she was music and choir director of St. John's Episcopal Church in Cuyahoga Falls. In 1967 she married Robert Russell who she met through their common interests in music. Both had sung with the Akron Symphony Chorus and Blossom Festival Chorus. Sally has been Chair of the Akron Symphony Chorus. She also sang with the Saint Cecelia Chorus.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her sisters, Patricia Falconer (Ralph), of Silver Lake Village and Gloria Campbell (Charles), of Austin, Texas, sister in law Kathleen Russell of Stow, niece Mary Kay Falconer of Tallahassee, Florida, nephew Kyle Campbell of Austin, Texas, grandniece Meaghan Scott, and grandnephews Nathan Scott and Carson Campbell.
Visiting hours will be at McGowan-Reid & Santos Funeral Home, 247 Stow Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, Thursday July 26th from 7-9 p.m. Funeral serviceswill be at St. John's Episcopal Church, 2220 2nd St., Cuyahoga Falls at 10 a.m. on Friday July 27th with Rev. Deborah T. Rankin officiating. Interment Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorial contributions can be given to a charity of ones choice in her memory.
